Proper planning of an MRI or X-Ray site is critical for a successful
project. There are many aspects that must be considered, such as
protecting the magnetic field inside the magnet from the environment and
protecting the environment from the effects of the magnetic field. MRI
systems require homogenous magnetic fields within the magnet to provide
distortion-free imaging and the magnet field of an MRI system extends
three-dimensionally beyond the imaging system. The effects of stationary
and moving ferrous material are an important planning consideration.
Protecting the immediate environment outside the magnet from the effect
of the magnetic field deserves equal consideration as does controlling
public access to the magnet area.
